It’s that time of year again. 2010 is ending and 2011 is just around the corner. Everybody is ready to make another New Years resolution. The most likely New Years resolutions are quitting smoking, losing weight and starting an exercise regimen. Most people have good intentions at the beginning of the New Year, but their intentions fall away after a couple of months when their busy lives take over. Many people do not make New Year’s resolutions and stick to them for the rest of your life? Below are some New Year’s resolutions you should make and keep forever.

The first New Year’s resolution you should make and keep is the quest to quit smoking. This resolution is not for everyone, it is for the individual who smokes cigarettes, cigars, pipes and chews chew. By now, everybody knows that smoking cigarettes and chewing chew causes cancer. Lung cancer kills too many people every year and cigarette smoking is a dirty disgusting habit. Quitting smoking is tough, but you can do it. There are many ways to quit smoking on the market today. Pick the method that works best for you and stick to it. After you quit smoking, you will be a healthier person who lives a longer life. Besides, quitting smoking will save you 5 to 10 bucks a pack. You can use that extra money to enjoy your longer life. Everybody says they are going to quit smoking, but many people quit because it is too hard.

The second New Years resolution you should make and keep is to lose weight and start an exercise regimen. Too many people are overweight and they eat a horrible diet. Many people spend too much time in front of the TV and not exercising. Losing weight is tough and exercising is just as tough. The successful dieter does not rely on fad diets. The fad diet is not designed for your health; it is designed for an individual or large corporation to make money off of you. The best diet is the diet that is a complete diet. Why lose weight on a fad diet over two months just to gain it back a few months later? To lose weight and keep at your desired weight, you need to live a well-balanced diet for the rest of your life. The key is to have one day a week where you can eat some of your favorite foods and not feel bad about yourself. If you are grossly overweight, you will have to take the road less traveled and completely change your lifestyle. If you are overweight for medical reasons it is important to talk to your doctor about the best way for you to lose weight.

Exercising is the other side to losing weight and maintaining your desired weight. Always go to the doctor before you start any kind of exercise regimen. You need to see if your body is healthy enough to exercise in the first place. Many doctors will tell you that walking is one of the best exercises you can do to lose weight and maintain your desired weight. Walking is easier than a treadmill because it is less boring. Buy yourself an iPod and walk for two or three miles each and every day. If you need more exercise, find an exercise regimen designed to personally help. This may take you to a gym where a trainer can personally help you out. The most important thing about diet and exercise it to continue on your regimen for the rest of your life. This will keep you in better health and you will often live longer. Dieting and exercising for two months out of the year often doesn’t help you and is a shock to your body.

The third New Year’s resolution you should make and keep is to spend more time with your family. The world is a busy place and many people spend all of their time trying to make money. Often they forget about the important things in life. One of the most important parts of your life should be your family. If you have children, they should know you as their parent instead of just knowing they have parents. Many marriages break up because the family does not spend any time together. Make 2011 and beyond a time for you to get to know your spouse and your children better, this healthy relationship will last a lifetime and you will feel loved inside.

The fourth New Year’s resolution you should make and keep is to spend more time with God. God is disappearing from our world. God is here, but people are removing him from their daily lives. Every day spend more time in your Bible and praying to God. If you don’t know God, maybe 2011 is finally the year you can build a relationship with God. With God in your life you can do anything, be anything and deal with anything. Getting to know God may be the most important New Year’s resolution you ever make.

The fifth New Year’s resolution you should make and keep is finding time for you. Each day and week of your life, make sure you find some time for you. Read a book, relax in front of the TV or just take a siesta by the beach. Whatever you do, make sure you find time for you. Keeping yourself busy does not take care of you the person. Every person needs time to relax, rewind and recoup. If you don’t find time for you, the stress will eventually affect every aspect of your life. Keep this New Year’s resolution for the healthier you.

The sixth New Year’s resolution you should make and keep is to find time for others. This could mean making time for your family. This could mean volunteering to help the less fortunate than you. This could mean teaching a Sunday school class at your church. This could mean serving Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner to the homeless. This could also mean sharing the word of God with somebody lost in the world. It is important to give part of yourself to other people.

Many people are ready to make New Year’s resolutions. The problem is many people are unable to keep those resolutions. A New Year’s resolution is a promise to yourself that you will do something to change your life for the better. If you are unable to keep a resolution, do not make one. Good intentions are just intentions unless you follow through with them. You have to take the second, third, fourth steps to actually follow through with your resolutions. Make this year the year you actually make a New Year’s resolution and you keep it for the rest of your life, Happy New Year to everybody.
